Evelyn Glover 1874–1941

Evelyn Glover was born in Lancashire in 1874 and had a long and successful career as a writer. Her plays include A Question of Time (1908) – co-written with F. Mathias Alexander, A Chat with Mrs. Chicky (1912), Showin’ Samyel (1914), A Bit of Blighty (1916), Their Mothers (1917), Time to Wake Up (1919) and Thieves in the Night (1921). Glover wrote several short pieces for BBC Radio that were broadcast between 1927 and 1934 and a children’s series for BBC Radio, The Careful Queen (1934–35). In her final publication, a memoir called Cats and My Camera (London: M. Joseph, 1938), she describes fellow suffrage playwright Beatrice Harraden as a ‘dear friend’.
